IPL9 2016 KKRVSGL Match Highlights, statsin: IPL9
It came down to the wire but the last hit from Umesh Yadav sealed it for the visiting side. With a decent target to chase, it was unusual for Kolkata as they lost both their in-form openers early. Suryakumar Yadav who was sent up the order lived up to his team's expectation and anchored the innings. He scored a brisk half century and got his team close. Pathan who walked in at number 5 had a job to do and he succeeded in doing so as he scored a 27-ball 36. The Yadav-Pathan duo added 51-run stand for the 4th wicket. Russell, Sathish and Chawla added some important runs towards the end which helped Kolkata inch closer to the target. In the end, it was all drama but Yadav finished off in fashion as he ended the game with a maximum.
The Pune bowlers bowled decently in patches but conceded a lot of boundaries at crucial times. Ankit Sharma conceded 17 runs in the 17th over and that turned the tide in Kolkata's favour. Bhatia was once again responsible in holding back the batsmen but the other seam bowlers gave away many runs. Some fumbles in the field led to some extra runs being given and Pune ended up on the losing side.
Man of the Match, Suryakumar Yadav - (On his game) It's just the way I play. I had been told by my captain to go out there and express myself. Not happy that I didn't finish the game but happy that it came for a winning cause. When I went to bat I knew that the ball was coming on nicely. Later on, it was difficult to capitalize. Instead of keeping it till the end I thought to get some runs in the beginning and make it easy for the other batsmen. (On batting with Yusuf Pathan) We were just talking that we'll rotate the strike and hit the loose balls. Winning against a challenging side at this ground on this pitch is a good sign as we head to Mumbai and it will be great to carry the winning streak.
Gautam Gambhir - (On the win) It's very important. Me and Robin (Uthappa) didn't contribute and we wanted to test the middle order. (On Suryakumar Yadav) We pushed him at number 3, he was in after the first ball but the way he batted was unbelievable. Pushing him at number 3 was a gamble. The way he batted today gives us a lot of options. I thought we didn't bowl really well. Last 3-4 overs we could have been more professional. Yusuf (Pathan) batted really well. We need to pull up our socks in the bowling but we batted really well. The only thing I can say is we can try and not give them 160. It was above par and they were very much in the game. The guys hit sixes at crucial times. More positives than negatives.
MS Dhoni - (Where you went wrong?) I think it's the length. It was difficult to hit the spinners. I told them not to bowl up. There were 5-6 sixes that were hit and there it went away. It's not about what should've happened. What matters is how you execute your plans on the field. You want to win games and this is a strong character to have. In the bowling unit, it's lacking a lot. If we want to compete in this tournament, we want our bowling unit to step up. (On pressure situations) You can advise individuals and tell them what needs to be done. When you get in with the bat or you're standing with the ball, it's upto you. Plenty of areas where we need to improve. As a batting unit we will have to take the extra responsibility and add those extra 15 runs.
